Over the past semester, Architecture Juniors have been collaborating with a seminar at the Cornell University School of Architecture, Art and Planning to create participatory forms of public art.

In this project, the seminar students created a manual with directions for creating a site-specific work of art. BDS Architecture students from all three grades followed the manual using a site two blocks up the street from BDS, the lawn at the Wonderground
Park, while at the same time Cornell students followed the same manual to create a lawn painting on their college campus in Ithaca.

BDS students collected plants from the site, and then developed dash patterns based on the plants.

They created dashed stripes of color using giant rollers, going around the locations where the plants were found. The final result is a giant lawn painting that can be best appreciated from above!

You can watch a timelapse of them painting here. The painting will be at the Wonderground (413 E Lanvale Street) until it washes away!
