We are proud to call DENT a community stakeholder. They are the perfect partner to help us Foster Creativity, Critical Thinking and Design Skills while working towards Expanding the Diversity of the Design Professions.
DENT Education hosted their summer program ‘Bet on Baltimore’ this past summer, growing the life-skills program to double what it was in 2018. Several students from the Baltimore Design School participated, as seen in thes video, but Ms. Hazelton-Muhammad – Class of 2022 – was spotlighted in the Summer Recap as she talked about her experience.
Zalaikhah was most excited about the animation training she received under the DENT media pathway. She wants to become an animator in the future. Her dream is to have a show on the Cartoon Network that will spread the message that we need to take better care of our planet. The Sophmore’s greatest take away was that you need to take action to have the future that you want. Just go do it and be yourself.
Program Director – Jessa Wais explained that DENT has been able to expand their summer ‘Bet on Baltimore’ program from just 40 students last summer to 80 students in 2019. “At DENT, we’re really action-oriented, not just brainstorming ideas, but putting them into reality” she notes.
Shadia Musa – DENT Fashion Coach says that “DENT encourages students to think outside of the box and be makers in a space where you don’t always see Black entrepreneurs, and that’s really important. We’ve got to work with the system to be able to fight the system.”
