BDS Students in the ACE Mentor program tour build site at the University of MD Medical Center
Baltimore Design School scholars participating in the ACE Mentor program tour a live build site at the University of MD Medical Center.
BDS Students participating in the ACE Mentor Program had the opportunity to tour a build site at the University of MD Medical Center to learn the build process for a medical facility. The tour was lead by the UMMC project manager, Mr. Elam who explained the stages of the project and how long the process took from designing with an architect, to building with a contractor. He discussed the various costs involved in such a large-scale project. Students were to gain inspiration as they plan for their ACE build challenge, redesigning the UMMC Cancer Center.
“It takes a lot of money to build something right” ’22 Emanuel Snead-Dorsey learned. 8th grader Jalen C. commented that he liked learning about how much money is spent on different parts of the job, and that most goes into the system requirements for the hospital to remain safe. Students gained inspiration for their ACE building challenge. Thanks to Ms. Zaeh for organizing the trip as the BDS Architecture Coach for the ACE program!
