BDS 9th-grade students took a trip to the campus of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) where they engaged in a presentation geared towards introducing them to the college and its community. They were able to ask questions to MICA’s undergraduate admissions counselor, the Director of Youth and Community Education, and two current Juniors who attend MICA. 9th graders had thoughtful questions that benefitted everyone. Students also toured the campus and then participated in mini workshops that introduced them to different majors MICA has to offer, such as product design, graphic design, and photography.
All students were generously treated to a gift from MICA, a tote bag, mini sketchbook & color pencils as they departed!
Students appreciated this opportunity and gained an understanding of a local art college & community literally at their doorstep!
MICA offers all city students opportunities, but BDS students have additional opportunities due to our partnership. We encourage students to take full advantage of them. One of these is the ADCAP pre-college program, which reserves at least 5 spots for our kids!
