Congratulations to BDS’ Isaiah Gregory for being selected to Serve on the Governor’s Maryland Youth Advisory Council for 2025 – 2027.

Isaiah was considered, among 137 applicants from across the state.  Applications went through various stages of review from the Governor’s Office of Children and each appointing body, and “among the best of the best,” he was selected and appointed by the Local Management Boards of Maryland.

A current Senior, Isaiah has served as President of the BDS Executive Board Student Government Association, and is currently President of the Associated Student Congress of Baltimore City (ASCBC).  He is looking forward to coaching the next president elect of the BDS Student Government Association this school year.

Isaiah described what inspired him to apply for the position: “As a student and an advocate, I am deeply inspired by the political challenges that students – especially Black students- face every day.  While it may seem counterintuitive, I have a passion for standing up for what I believe in and an unwavering commitment to protecting and representing the voices of my peers,” says Gregory.  “Advocacy is not a role I just take on; it’s a duty that I embrace wholeheartedly.  That’s why I applied to serve as a member of the Maryland Youth Advisory Council.”

Youth Council members will be expected to attend general council sessions and engage in robust discussions about youth-related issues with fellow members and community members.  They will develop collective strategies to discuss youth-related issues and participate in the Maryland Legislative session, including providing testimony, tracking bills and meeting with legislators.

We are excited for Isaiah to continue to develop his astounding leadership and advocacy skills while he builds life-long connections with other Maryland Youth.  Isaiah shared his excitement to “influence youth-related legislation and advance statewide goals to ensure students are not just spoken about in policy discussions, but are actively shaping the policies that affect our futures.” “I’m excited,” he continued, “to keep pushing the fight for protecting Maryland students’ funding for education and the blueprint, and working with organizations like Strong Schools Maryland, to defend our rights as students.”

As Isaiah explores his post-secondary options, we will look forward to seeing and experiencing his progress.  We know he’s down to “Get Into Good Trouble.”
