Baltimore Design School partners with iMentor to deliver programming that ensures students are college- or career-ready upon graduation. Four BDS Seniors participated in a recent iMentor field trip to City Hall. “The purpose of the trip was to expose students to public policy, encourage civic engagement and advocacy, and give them the opportunity to meet with Councilwoman Phylicia Porter,” said LaToia Lyle – Associate Director of Program, Baltimore Region.
“During the visit, students observed an actual City Council hearing where two new legislative bills were discussed, ” Ms. Lyle explained. “One bill focused on the issuance of Baltimore City municipal IDs, while the other addressed the proposed closing of the Sisson Environmental Center in Baltimore.”
Students also toured City Hall and learned about the history and significance of the building, and gained a better understanding of Baltimore’s role in both Maryland and the broader national political landscape.
