A small group of Baltimore Design School girls participated in the Black Girl Saturday School Jam Session at the Reginald F. Lewis | Maryland African American History and Culture Museum.
They explored contemporary art fiber works presented in an exhibit “BLACK WOMAN GENIUS: Elizabeth Talbott Scott”. Students joined a multi-generational group of women and participated in a discussion that was facilitated by Aliyah Bonnette, a BLACK WOMAN GENIUS featured artist. They were tasked to use fabric and various fibers to create a quilt that reflected ‘Art as Memory’. The group shared their art along with a memory that sparked their creative expression.
We were excited to see our own Attendance monitor, Mrs. Lewis, as well as the parent of a ’19 graduate and an alumna, Monet H. from the class of 2018! It was an amazing experience.
Thank you to the BDS Board of Trustees for sponsoring students to be able to participate. Students were chaperoned by the BDS Community School Site Specialist.
