This school year, BDS teacher Tia Diggs coached the school’s first-ever Maryland Science Olympiad team, leading them to their inaugural regional competition at Western High School. The competition was fierce, with top-performing high schools from Baltimore City and Baltimore County vying for gold.

Students London W. and Carmen J. competed in the challenging Disease Detectives category, where they had just 50 minutes to answer 61 advanced STEM questions focused on diseases and scientific analysis. They demonstrated intense focus, critical thinking and teamwork under pressure.

Competing in League A, BDS scholars participated in the Forensics C event and earned an impressive 3rd place finish. Overall, the team placed 6th, out of 28 teams in their league — a remarkable accomplishment for their very first tournament appearance.

It was an exciting and inspiring debut, and London and Carmen demonstrated excellence, perserverence and true BDS pride.  We look forward to even greater achievements from Coach Diggs and her team in the seasons ahead. (Next time… photos!)
