Baltimore Design School students who will be in grades 6 through 12 for the 2025-2026 school year are required to complete a mandatory summer reading assignment. English/Language Arts teachers created these assignments to help your student prepare for the upcoming school year. Print copies of the assignments–and the required books, in most cases–have already been handed out to current BDS students. Students have also been encouraged to begin their summer assignments now to avoid waiting until the last minute.

Please understand that these assignments are not optional, and students will face consequences if the assignments are not completed by Friday, August 29, 2025. For any student who is being considered for an Honors or Advanced Placement course, failure to complete the required assignment will result in removal from the Honors or Advanced Placement course as well as a failing grade for the assignment. For students in standard courses, failure to complete the summer work will result in a zero for the assignment.

If your scholar has not yet received their summer reading assignment, please encourage them to speak to their English/Language Arts teacher immediately. Extra copies will be available for pickup in the Main Office during summer hours; however, digital copies are available upon request. Please send an email to the address given below with the name of your scholar along with the grade they will be in for the 2025-2026 school year.
