Media Center Mission

Helping students succeed in school and life.

Our mission is to provide the information and tools necessary for success in school and in life. The primary purpose of the media center is to provide materials needed to enrich and support the curriculum and to provide a wide variety of reading materials for students and staff.

We aim to teach 21st century skills so students can successfully organize, analyze, and interpret information for class assignments. These skills are needed to prepare students for higher education and/or as future members of the workforce. Finally, our mission is to involve students in, and be advocates for, the art of literature, reading, writing, and lifelong learning.

In our media center, we seek to….

  • Foster a love of reading that renders a positive attitude towards lifelong learning
  • Provide continual instruction and service to all library patrons
  • Select, purchase, organize, and maintain a quality library collection
  • Offer access to materials and information resources in diverse formats
  • Teach efficient information literacy skills including critical evaluation and effective use of resources
  • Provide leadership in the use of information technology on campus
  • Promote diversity and freedom of inquiry and expression
  • Uphold respect for others and for library property
  • Supply faculty with curriculum enhancement materials

Library Catalog

The media center’s collection priorities include continuing to buy best sellers, reference resources, and young adult titles. The media center makes it a priority to be centered on learning to meet the needs of students, faculty, and the community and to provide the programming needed for success.

It is a priority of this media center to select and maintain materials that promote intellectual freedom, support and enhance school curriculum, meet the needs of students, and provide equal access to information. It is a priority to obtain materials that will be utilized by students and teachers to focus on life-long learning.

Gifts and Donations Policy

We are so glad that you want to support our students and the mission of BDS. Baltimore Design School media center encourages and welcomes gifts and donations to be used to benefit the media center’s vision. However, donated materials or gifted materials must undergo the same selection policy as all other materials that are added to our collection.

Our priority is ensuring that we provide age and level appropriate resources for our students. Donations that do not fit the mission of the BDS media center will be respectfully declined. We accept books, DVDs, audio books, magazines, etc. on a rolling basis. Items will be added to the collection on an as needed basis.
