A group of BDS students traveled with the Community School Specialist to Washington, D.C. today to see a special screening of 'Howl's Moving Castle' at the Kennedy Center. As fate would have it, due to the flood warning, stand-still traffic, and several accidents, the group didn't make it to the show.

Not to be deterred from an adventure, the youth decided to visit the D.C. Arboretum and explore the bonsai exhibits and herb gardens.

The museum had a special geological exhibit featuring collected stones that resembled mountains, landscape or animals as a way of connecting with nature. The stones might be exhibited alone, or as a base for creating bonsai. They were truly beautiful
and interesting.

In spite of the rain, the group enjoyed exploring the grounds, and even braved an ALMOST empty fountain when they spotted a frog. 🐸

The day ended with a trip to Western Market on the George Washington University campus for a little Japanese food (a nod to the anime movie they missed!)

One student questioned their decision to sit up front, after having to endure the Community School Specialist’s ‘jokes’ for the hour+ drive.
