Event Recap October 11, 2019
Master Adire Artist, Gasali Adeyemo Visited 6th Grade Designers Today for a Special Design Talk on Textile Arts
The MICA Fiber Department arranged for textile artist Gasali Adeyemo to talk with 6th grade designers in the BDS media center today, October 11.
6th grade designers had a special guest today. Textile artist, Gasali Adeyemo, presented to students, discussing his work and the different techniques he uses to create his beautiful designs.
Adeyemo is a master adire artist who creates beautiful fabric and clothing using a technique he learned in his native Nigeria. He specializes in indigo dyes because of their cultural importance to his people, and each textile has traditional Yoruba designs, with symbolic and biographical meanings.
Mr. Adeyemo was full of knowledge and gracious in answering plenty of questions designers had about his work and process. His visit was truly special.
Special thanks to Ms. Waggoner (our awesome AmeriCorps MICA liason in the Media Center), who has been working with Ms. Valeska Populoh of the Maryland Institute College of Art Fiber Dept. to make this experience happen!
