Whoops, in case you missed it—students in Baltimore City Schools have been in school for 180 days so far this year! 📚🎉 As we reflect on the first 100 days of this school year, the Student Government Association (SGA) celebrates the milestones that have shaped our school community. From advocacy to civic engagement, our commitment to student leadership remains stronger than ever.

2023-24 Accomplishments:

  • Winter Clothing Drive: Provided essential support to students and families in need.
  • Charm City Virtual Mural Project: SGA Established a school outreach partnership to engage students in community-based arts initiatives.

Student Voice in Policy & Budgeting:
  • Spoke at the City Schools Commissioner Forum on grade change policy & wellness.
Arts & School Spirit: 
  • Collaborated with NHS to complete the CCV outreach mural design, enhancing student creativity.

Leadership Recognition:
  • President Gregory received the Outstanding Leadership Award (ASCBC) and was later honored with a Leadership Award from the School District.
Civic Engagement & Legal Advocacy
  • Hosted a Voter Registration Drive to promote student participation in democracy.
  •  SGA at the Court of Appeals for Bradford v. Maryland State Board of Education, advocating for educational equity.

Student Mentorship & Engagement:
  • President Gregory visited his alma mater to inspire 7th graders about the high school experience.
  • SGA participated in “Day in the Classroom,” exploring courses in Architecture & Chemistry.

2024-25 Milestones:

 

Student Voice in Policy & Budgeting:
  • SGA Members attended the District Budget Priorities Youth Session. Advocating for changes and improvements that reflect the needs of students across our schools.
  • President Gregory is actively advocating to our city councilmen regarding the waterfall issues with the Copycat Building, ensuring student safety and improved infrastructure.
  • SGA Members gave input on our upcoming 25-26 SY Budget at the Student Family Council Meeting (SFC).
  • SGA members rallied with the Associated Student Congress of Baltimore City (ASCBC) on Blueprint Day in Annapolis, alongside Strong Maryland Schools, to advocate for the funding Maryland schools were promised under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. blueprint.marylandpublicschools.org

Strengthening Student Leadership:
  • SGA represented at Summer Bridge to welcome and support new students.
  • Launched the SGA Election, ensuring strong student governance.
  • Represented at the MASC Winter Leadership Conference, fostering statewide connections.
  • Inaugurated eight new Grade-Level Representatives, expanding student leadership opportunities.
  • Ameera Moore ‘26 was appointed Executive Board Historian, enhancing historical documentation.

Promoting Student Well-Being:
  • 11th Grade President Science Messiah ‘26 launched ZenZone, a student-led Mental Health Program, to support wellness initiatives.

Student Media & School Culture:

  • The SGA Newscast actively covered teacher tours, open houses, and other major school events, producing a total of 11 videos highlighting student engagement.
  • Covered Costume Day for the SGA Newscast, showcasing school spirit.
  • Ameera Moore ‘26 covered the ASCBC General Assembly for BCPSS News Team, elevating student representation.

These accomplishments represent the dedication, passion, and leadership that define our SGA. As we continue forward, we remain committed to amplifying student voices, advocating for positive change, and ensuring that every student at Baltimore Design School has the resources and opportunities to succeed.
